So far, this year, I've got through about 16 books - a couple were unfinished because of problems, and I did listen to some James Herriot books at the start of the year on audible (the trouble with those is that I can't remember which ones I started listening to this year and I had listened to a couple last year so I've not recorded them. I had some luck today when I was out at the shops - there were a bunch of Anne Mcaffrey books in the RSPCA charity shop there. AI used in them, books from that era are even more my preferred go to when it comes to reading. (It's quite ironic, given the fact that I like Sci-Fi.) I'll probably get to these after I've read the Firekeeper/Blindseer books again (I have read those books before, but the author has released a couple more in the series and it's been just over a decade since I read them and I want to re-read them before getting to the

I discovered today that the Stargate novels that were published in the mid 2000's are now on Kindle, so I might get those again - I got rid of them previously because I had limited room for books and I wanted to keep books that I enjoyed more at the time.
Dear Facebook, ads are annoying. Promoting groups and pages to me that I don't follow are annoying. If I was interested in them, I would be following them and I'm not. All this promoting does is ensure that they get blocked. (I don't have a problem with the group/page itself, but I don't want to see it popping up randomly on my timeline.) Facebook is becoming unusable.
They need to make things safe for predestinations to access them, as well. During the 90's and early 2000s, I walked all over the place with my first collie in the village where I grew up. For Max (and Colin), in particular, it was bad because both of them were scared of traffic and having cars and worse, lorries trundling down roads with no space for pedestrians was a night mare. Where we live now, you can't access countryside areas without loads of traffic being in the way, and one area I found was blocked off, so it's a road nightmare. country lanes aren't fit for purpose with the amount of traffic on today's roads and many drivers think they can speed everywhere.
I started listening to the first of the Scholomance books by Noami Novik. It's not as bad as I expected, but not that great either... I would say that it's middling. It's well written enough to keep my attention but there isn't a lot of depth to the characters. I think if you've read and enjoyed the Harry Potter books, you expect everything to be of a similar depth, both character-wise and world building wise.
I've got both books from the library now as I picked the next one up today. Observation: the font in hardbacks is larger and easier to read, so in future, I'm going to have to get the hardback editions of books if I want to read them. Which is great because either:
They are more expensive.
Not every book has a hardback edition.
Are alcohol markers worth the money? Last year, when I was packing to move, I marked my boxes with black marker pens (some were sharpies, some were a popular brand called Ohuhu) so I knew what was in them. It got me thinking - are alcohol markers worth the money? Of all the various art supplies you can buy, alcohol markers can be one of the most expensive ones, particularly if you get a brand like Copic, and there are all those manga and comic book artists out there who happily use them in their work, but if you keep the art work in the light, eventually it will fade to nothing. expecting the fade to be that dramatic. It begs the question: is it ethical for a company like the producers of Copic to charge so much for their markers? Will we lose vast amounts of art to fading? There are copies, of course, printed, digital, etc, but none of them will be the original and it will be gone.
We also seem to be having an on going problem with BT... The internet has been crap ever since we moved here but some days you just can't get the thing to work properly, no matter how many times you restart your computer and restart the hub's buffer...

I've moved a load of stuff from the room where I want to get the bookcases for so that I've got room to put the bookcases up, and found a load of stuff I'd lost track of. Apparently, there is a bag of clothes that I need to go through, and I'd actually thought that I'd gone through everything. Joy! The clothes get on my nerves to be honest... The BBC is making a fuss over a 13 year old child (girl) who got involved in the race riots and mobs at the start of the month. Come on, BBC, you can do better than that. A child isn't really responsible. I want to see the 40 odd year old, KKK skin head getting convicted who incited it.
Finished listening to Within the Sanctuary of Wings. It's a great series and I've really enjoyed them. They remind me very much so of Darwin's Voyage of the Beagle, the discovery of the Roseta Stone and the beginning of the translation of Egyptian hieroglyphs and the discovery of dinosaurs in the 19th century. They are also reminiscent of the early sci-fi books that took inspiration from discoveries in geology

Listening Books don't have the sequel to the Natural History of Dragons series so I borrowed a hard copy from the library. Like those Seven Kennings books, the font is small. What's the deal with it? I have other paperbacks where the font is readable, even in the smaller size paperbacks so why should a larger book have a smaller font?

And then there are the italics... Italics are hard to read even at larger font sizes and when used for title headings so using them for large blocks of text is odd. Publishers need to work on making their books readable and large font users aren't restricted to grannies reading Catherine Cookson books.
