Something worth considering is that a sizable strata of smartphone users are on a leasing model - people have installment plans of $xx/month to use a new smartphone (to pay for hardware). For a software subscription model, you can see this development already happening with cloud integrations (iCloud, GSuite, etc)
The idea around 'paying' for tweets and etc have been scaffolded with BAT (basic attention token) & Brave browser, something to look at if you find micropayment infrastructure for piecemeal-commoditized online content interesting. It's extraordinarily hard to imagine what the future will bring!
