Hi, I’m planning on revamping the website soon with the kicked-in-teeth CCS. However can I ask if anyone has any images, links or tutorials relating to an old photo editing trick that I can only describe as “erasing or making part of a large image semi-transparent, in order to cut down the file space but not downsize the image itself” usually done in a “checker boarded” fashion.

however there were several very creative ways people used this, and I would love to emulate it in my re-vamping. This trick also was part of the "diagonal scanline" effect that I remember was popular on button and icon making
Hopefully it's only going to be a little bit more until my portfolio site is up and running, it's mostly done just little bit's a pieces, and some adjustment to make it a bit more mobile friendly. Hopefully i get the "yeah sure that's good" and i don't have to drastically change anything!
