Your wig method is similar to the one I use for dolls! I use a Ziplock bag as a protective base, though (sometimes two bags depending), then hot glue to attach. The hot glue adds enough stability to it to hold a shape, and it dries fast. The downsides: it dries fast, can be stringy if you're not careful, and it's hot. Gets good results for me though, especially since wefts can be attached ends-down.
@owlroost Thanks for the advice! When I was trying hotglue, the tape surface was too slippery. Sticking it right onto the plastic is a good idea. I imagine the hot glue helps keep the shape of the wig cap too. Do you have pictures of your dolls on your website :O I'd love to see
