I've taught Postmodernism through film and literature, but not art. Would be interested to see what that looks like
Art deviates a bit from the usual script of pomo in the sense that film and lit (broadly speaking) tend to challenge mainstream conventions and agreed upon principles like style, technique and narration, but still work in or with an agreed upon medium.
Art's "agreed upon" principles have probably been buried in Europe and the US since the reception of Dada, and pomo art, while generally a hard to categroize mess of ideas, is characterized through movements defining themselves with their use of different media and the use of appropriation and institutional critique.
(not counting the return to traditional art forms in some areas that can be compared to the intertextual approaches in pomo film and lit)
The acceptance of drawing (not printmaking) as more than a drafting state of a later work or a lesser art form per se coincides with modernism, which was the first art movement to produce major artists who were draftsmen primarily, so drawing has the weird position of being an old tradition, but a rather new art form.
Postmodern draftsmen are probably people like Linda Karshan, Monika Grzymala and Pia Linz on one and Takashi Murakami and Banksy on the other end, but there is no strict definition. Will try my hand on it!
Wow! I thought you were just going to draw me a pretty picture!
