I think the Bouncer comparison is really fair here, both in terms of length and in terms of maybe attracting more derision than the games deserve. You definitely reminded me that I need to go back and do a sound-on run!
Some of the fun of playing stuff outside my own comfort zone is learning more about things I genuinely like in sub genres of games I thought simply weren't for me. I do want to try more modern styled FPS games just to see if I do still feel negatively towards them. FPS is one of my favourite genres but I only really play 90s style FPS games, and I feel I should try more recent FPS games before dismissing them
Something I often find with pixel art games is that when more detail gets added it kinda clashes with the mental image I had in my head vs how things end up looking in sequels. I wouldn't have thought that the blood in Nidhogg 1 was actually yellow and orange for instance, I would of figured that's just how the silhouette art style presents it, it felt darker than 2 presents itself with its cartoon paint characters
