Your banner is a bit too large (50% of your site), and since it's the first image that loads, the performance isn't very nice in uncucked locations (outside of SoCal). webp is a google tracking format.

you can use mozjpeg if you want, but getting the encoder up and running is more involved for me whereas gimp had built-in support for webp encoding
