Terriers in general are the more aggressive breeds in my experience. Especially those of the bull variety but small ones are pretty vicious too. The friendliest dog I'd ever encountered was a Border Collie. They are incredibly lovely you have the space. My dream dog would be a Borzoi. I like the way they look.
As for Pibbies, I've been to a lot of shitty neighboorhods from inner city hoods to rural dumps, standing your ground, not turning your back, and not running when you hear them bark usually keeps them off your back. If that doesn't work and you get charged, you need a really strong bear mace. Clubs and that sort will not do anything as Pibbies have this thing where they don't care about pain when they are attacking.
If you have to use deadly force on a pibbie, you better make it count and be ready to deal with the legal ramifications depending on your local laws and what you used. I don't like pit bulls but thankfully, I haven't got into any trouble with them.
