Oh, sorry! The image is not yet made, I forgot to remove the code for it when putting on the website...
As I said in my blog, activity will continue as usual for the website, for the meantime, I’ll continue to host my files on Nekoweb for a few months and see how it goes. If there’s one thing I learned, it is to not be hasty from all this!
Might even turn to self hosting if need be… so many options and thoughts in my tiny noodles brain… it’s hard to make a choice (´・ᴗ・ `)
It’s a terrible and depressing mindset to have that will become all more prevalent, specially when it’s embraced with open arms. Treating art as “something to get over and done with it” rather than “something hard to do but very rewarding” it’s basically saying that you don’t care about the creative process of art, you just care about the results, money and fame from it.
That’s not even mentioning the constant stealing, scraping and violations these AI developers have to do to make and sell their products.
So, Stewart Brand’s PC argument and AI are not the same thing, Kyle. One you use as a tool to make your creative projects and develop your skills, the other is a cheat code for mediocrity with no difficulty or skill to develop. One benefits the user and gives them tools to pursue their creativity, the other spews out the same trash that is controlled by their corporations.
With that being said, I’ll be going forward with my plans of moving to Nekoweb. I don’t want my code, writing or art to be fed to a machine without my consent or control because you got a handsome offer from these thieves. Don’t get me wrong, I’m far from amazing at any of those 3 things, but they still hold a lot of value to me, because you know, I spent a lot of time making it.
I’ll still hangout here and talk to the wonderful people I had the pleasure to meet here during these 2 years, but I’ll no longer be paying for Neocities services or hosting files here. It’s gonna be a long process to move everything, especially for me who has never even tried such a thing and is completely oblivious to many obvious things! But it’s for the better.
There would still be work to be done with it, but I think the "download entire site" option in the editor would help moving a lot. You'd still have to change all the links, but I've looked at mine after weekly backups and thought it seemed pretty doable.
I tried using the "downloading entire site" option but only butchered the website files, usually downloading only like, 30% of everything and stopping right after, due to my website being a little toooo big. I used the “Mount to Computer” feature to download everything, which worked pretty well. But changing all the links and stuff will take quite the long time…
@crackworths Kyle made a dissertation about how we should embrace AI with open arms like we embraced PCs back in the day and expressed support towards generative AI. Saying that it is a tool to help with creativity, which I disagree with heavily in both principle and the current execution (all the stealing, scraping and stuff).
