i feel like life goals don't give the same good feel a solid update does. i usually look for messy code and somewhere in the process of cleaning it up i get an idea to change everything

Check every page for errors via W3C's or WDG's validator: http://htmlhelp.com/tools/validator/batch.html.en If you're using a POSIX OS, you can alternatively install the latter's local validator (package is wdg-html-validator_FOO_all.BAR) for extremely flexible batch validation that prints to standard output.
