For those wondering about the large influx of "anti-Evangelion" articles coming out, I just wanted to say that Evangelion is a good anime and a great manga, however there are other worthy mecha anime from this era. Big O, Nadesico, Rahxephon GaoGaiGar and Eureka Seven are all equally worthy of being called the best among mecha. (Have not seen TTGL, so I cannot comment on it).

However, some honorable mentions are Sally the Witch, Minky Momo (potentially inappropriate), Creamy Mami, Cutey Honey (inappropriate), Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew (have not seen the new season) and Magical Meow Meow Taruto. I recommend all of these to you.

Definitely. The dub tried to make it spookier but it backfired (they thought Card Captor Sakura was the Dragon Ball Z of magical girls).

Madoka is definitely worthy, it is the darkest magical girl series that I can recommend. (The only thing darker is Magical Girl Site and the less said the better).

eva definitely was influential no doubt about that but people need to show more love for other anime that is marginally similar
I'm an enormous believer in Big O personally, one of my all time favorites.
