Oh hell yes. This whole deal made me realize how much I dislike any rankings and numbers on Neocities, actually. I had such a bad feeling about the whole thing and despite its harmlessness, it made me worry about the culture on here. I still wish there was a bigger focus on promoting webrings and communities rather than sole websites.
Very good overview, I definitely have similar feelings on it. It's really important for people joining here (or anywhere, really) to relax and get comfy with the slow environment of the small web instead of trying to replicate the instant gratification of larger social media platform popularity. path number one to burnout and self-hatred to worship the vague 'number go up' rather than individual impact
