I think the Roger Scruton quote was okay, since there was a single purpose to the sentence, to draw a broad comparison between the intellectual basis of the two revolutions. I haven't read this though. I assume this was an introductory sentence followed by more detailed discussion?
I remember when Microsoft integrated Explorer with Windows. They were taken to court (anti-competitive claim I think. This is from memory) They argued that Explorer was not an add-on but fully integrated into the Windows system and couldn't just be removed. Microsoft accused of anticompetitive practices but it didn't help Netscape in the end.
