@bmh I see. You could be right about it being a fault in one of the chips (I would check the RAM first), or it could be something as simple as a bad connection because of rust or other stuff. What happens if you press reset for a bit?

@displayman I have used deoxit and reseated the few socketed chips. Pressing reset just cycles the effect; it was also doing a chequeboard pattern. I have ordered some replacement RAM and sockets; they'll take a while to arrive.

Fun fact: I typed up the page of notes from the 'What Is Good?' book I recently read using my AlphaSmart 3000...

Wait until your learn how day-to-day web browsing is like walking a minefield without VPN in Russia... Websites with Cloudflare that block access from here, websites blocked by the government (there are Tons of them), you name it.

@saint-images ...yes, I was thinking of you and others alike while I was writing that. This is not how things should be.

Here in Spain the government doesn't block pages usually, unless it is a very big pirating site, but even then the owners quickly open a new link to the site and you can access it again on the very same day.
