You're so right. I hate the smug fence-sitting and impulse contrarianism to downplay the severity of what is happening to Palestinians because some fandom teenager made a cringe tweet. Truly people who would've paid lipservice for Nazis just to disagree with people they find annoying on social media. Ghoulish.
^ This is a great opportunity to make everyone grow out of their sense of helplessness. imo there is no point in mocking kids reposting stuff when the true performative activists are people in power that vaguely call for ceasefires without naming any names — for propagandistic purposes only. Everything else is a distraction.
We do have the same opinion on the topic then. In general, over the course of the years spent here, I have noticed the occasional veiled elitism regarding this matter, looking down upon whoever still uses social media and all; I think everyone should indulge in self-expression and find community in non-corp spaces
In general, as someone who started browsing "late", I find it odd to see people with even less internet "experience" than me saying they prefer the old web, when they couldn't witness it (for the best, maybe). Is it a matter of mere aesthetic values? Is it a desire to build a third system? I am very curious about this.
Honestly, a lot is probably aesthetic values, I guess. I'm not really sure. There are a lot of people who want to seem like OGs to fit into a group while kind of just sporting a surface level aesthetic of said thing. But also I guess there's nothing wrong with loving things you weren't here for. And maybe they do think the old way has potential! who knows
Removed the iframes, today's entry may need a content warning. Needs to be fixed, I know.
i can relate to the feelings you shared, both the more negative ones and the desire for optimism. i'm wishing the best for you; don't give up!
