wow yeah never heard of dolphins either and i used to be pretty into a couple gachas some fourish years ago
right? now there's dolphins, and minnows too apparently.. i feel like im out of the loop (and for the better, tbh)
never heard of minnows either lol, way i see it we're just celebrating out of touch thursday as god intended https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7xMgJedN2s
Maybe this is weird to say, but part of why I like your entries is because most of the time, I have no clue what you're talking about, like the gacha games & stuff. I guess what I mean is that what you write is interesting to me because our lives don't have a lot of overlap :p
Heheh your comment made me smile, I'm glad you enjoy my chaotic rants that may or may not be incomprehensible to you π
no thank you for having a cool website that i enjoy a lot heh... apology accepted π€π€π€
The dressed up avis are a great addition!!! The virtual popstar ones are so cute
Ikr!! Better than the naked monstrosities... Vps definitely has some of my fav proportions, I love the bobbleheads
your review of that kawakami book has me so intrigued π will read and report back. i loved heaven so i should be in for a good time!!
i recommend it!! oh and there's a whole aspect of romance i didnt mention in the review but it ends... in an interesting way so i felt like i would spoil it if i talked about it too much
hello sorter of cabbage
Hello labour of ment- wait that doesn't work...
turning into fat yoshi as we speak
I really agree with your latest diary entry. I've enjoyed and participated in the y2k-revivalism, but it unfortunately looks like people are content with displaying all the superficial signs/symbols/aesthetics with none of the attitude that made it substantive and subversive in the first place.
i'm tired of it too! though zoomies now try to meme "real y2k" which is still far away from what people wore back then, it's just 90s minimalism with zoomer spin. i'm just so tired of it at this point. it can be fun to use design cues but their larp feels so fake
i mean i love these women who wear like exclusively 40s vintage and it's tied to their lifestyle and it feels more sincere? they do it for themselves, when most of zoomers do it for clout and move onto new thing when time comes.
i had a whole paragraph about those types of people (the ones that get into a decade as a whole subculture) written but i felt it didt fit with the rest of rant, such a coincidence you mentioned it lmao
i feel like the dudes wearing tophats and monocles and ladies into victorian fashion etc are way cooler simply by the virtue of also keeping it offline kekk idk when you begin to turn it into a socmed product it becomes so.. meh
"Fujo and /b/tard literally where? You damn philistines." im sorry but i laughed so hard. as always your rants are full of personality
here in my short essay i will discuss how we can revive the soviet union by bringing back disco
oh was it the san andreas review girl? i had similar thoughts seeing her, it's so saddeningly artificial, can't believe people fall for it lol. the 20k subs special fucking sent me though its hilarious lmao
Yes it was her!!
I know exactly who you're talking about because I got the same channel recommended to me and instantaneously hit the "Do not recommend this channel again"
great entry! you're right, maybe it hits different because it's the era we grew up in, but the current interest in y2k feels so insincere and like you said, performative. reminds me of the old 360 kid meme, "the great thing about the 360 isn't beating the games, it's showing everyone online that i did"
If someone made a website that was really what a fujo /b/tard would've made in the 00s, they would get cancelled by the same 00s nostalgia younger zoomer/gen alpha crowd lol...
I saw on a sewing subreddit post where a girl made a "y2k" shorts out of her pants, herself. But her shorts were high waisted jeans with cutout pockets and a lightblue denim (which don't look nothing like the y2k shorts people wore back them lol).
I get your rant about "idealized y2k nostalgia". I feel the same way, because when I was a kid/tween/teen everyone dressed so fucking ugly and I hated LOL the adults would wore stupid clothing (my mom had an ugly high heeled clog that looked like it was fake wood) and all teens would wear awful outfits with obligatory black eyeliner (me included LOL).
So I am so glad that we outgrew that era and we have high wasted mom jeans per example (yay), them these bunch of zoomers relieve the "y2k fashion" but isn't exactly y2k
Might be reading a bit much from that video. People see cool things, and want to emulate them, the finer points are (seen as) unimportant/irrelevant because time does move on after all, and superficial things are the easiest to reproduce. Context can't be brought back.
Hmmm maybe I am, but this isn't the only instance of me encountering this behavior, which led me to writing this lmao. In fact everything I mentioned here I've encountered already on everskies, however those kids never went as viral. You hit the nail on the head in your second sentence though, that's pretty much all this is imo!
