Reject Discord, Return To Old-School Forums
really hoping summitsphere specifically goes through with the forum thing, the summit inn discord is impossible for me to use due to noise. i wanna talk abt antonblast :(
I've been wondering what the hell even happened to the forums. I'd assume they just got replaced by Reddit and later Discord, but Reddit still somewhat functions like a more modernized forum so that doesn't make sense. Discord really is terrible for archival, at least the forums are up until it shuts down and often times people can get archives before then (whether for their own websites or the Wayback Machine)
I've noticed with nsmbhd.net how easy it is to get a forum active. A few days ago, we had 150+ posts in a single day and it was mostly done by me and one other guy (with a few replies from 2 other ppl). Until that point, there was maybe 30 daily at best. Its easy to keep forums alive, but hard if you don't have people actually dedicated to the forums which I believe is the case for most Discord user
Also, that would explain how the Yesterweb forums kinda just died quickly. Most were likely Discord users who more so were there to chat, not for the actual cause. Discord seemingly has helped make forums dead while also making their alternative way worse (forums on Discord feel like just an extra chat rather than an actual forum). Guilded at least has public channels + their forums feel like a forum but not Discord.
