Imo the whole document was a massive cope. You hit the nail on the head though, the top staff grew completely out of touch because they huffed their own farts a bit too much and didn't bother telling everyone else that they're not a mere nostalgia community anymore
yeah, i didn't get to it in the post but the "accomplishments" they listed in the conclusion were exceptionally dubious
the forum also gave me an insight on how badly the staff has been managing the ring, should be featured in a "how not to run a webring" guide, if there is one
Now that it's over any speculation is just gossip. But I am intrigued by how they were infiltrated by literal Communists and how that shaped how the main team interacted with the community. I'm not making any value judgements, but it's an interesting story.
i'm reading the forum thread now and it seems like the majority of it was driven by just one high-up staff member, who is also most likely the primary author of the document
somehow snagged a vintage preview image for this one, WOW the site used to look awful
i was worried there was too much finance stuff... but i have to admit there's something oddly satisfying about busting out terms like "collateralized debt obligation" (even though i'm not 100% sure what that one means)
Really interesting read!
That's a really good read and a balanced take on the whole yesterweb situation. May it be a cautionary tale for the next group that attempts to drive a Marxist revolution with a website hobbyist group.
